Method examples

Five inputs. Five different boundary lessons.

These fixed examples expose how time-zone handling, solar terms, unknown time and true solar time affect a calculated chart before interpretation begins.

← Calculation methodology

Example 1

Standard complete chart

01
Scenario
Known local time and place with the default civil-time calculation.
Input
27 October 2026 · 12:00 · Asia/Hong_Kong
Calculation
Default Rule Profile; no true solar time; no offset override.

year

丙午

month

戊戌

day

甲戌

hour

庚午

Lesson. A complete chart contains all four pillars and uses Jia Wood as the Day Master.

Boundary. The result demonstrates the current engine output. It is not a claim of independent calendar certification.

Example 2

Unknown birth time

02
Scenario
The date and place are known, but the local clock time is unavailable.
Input
27 October 2026 · unknown time · Asia/Hong_Kong
Calculation
Three-pillar calculation using the documented local-noon reference.

year

丙午

month

戊戌

day

甲戌

hour

—

Lesson. The Hour Pillar is omitted rather than guessed, and the interpretation must carry that uncertainty.

Boundary. A day-boundary alternative is shown separately when the selected rule changes the day at 23:00.

Example 3

Before the Lichun year boundary

03
Scenario
A birth instant shortly before the 2026 Lichun transition in UTC.
Input
3 February 2026 · 20:00 · UTC
Calculation
Year changes at the calculated Lichun instant, not January 1.

year

乙巳

month

己丑

day

戊申

hour

壬戌

Lesson. Civil-year labels and zodiac marketing years can differ from the BaZi Year Pillar.

Boundary. Small ephemeris or time-zone differences matter most close to the exact transition.

Example 4

Sourced historical UTC offset

04
Scenario
A historical birth record supplies an offset that replaces IANA inference.
Input
1 July 1941 · 12:00 · Asia/Hong_Kong · +07:30 · historical-source
Calculation
Recorded manual offset with source; minute-level precision.

year

辛巳

month

甲午

day

庚戌

hour

壬午

Lesson. The source is stored with the result so a precision claim remains auditable.

Boundary. Minute and second-level offsets are accepted when sourced; uncertainty in the original clock time remains visible.

Example 5

True solar time in London

05
Scenario
A summer London birth with longitude and equation-of-time correction.
Input
15 June 2026 · 12:30 · Europe/London · 51.5072, -0.1276
Calculation
True solar time enabled; adjusted time 11:28.

year

丙午

month

甲午

day

庚申

hour

壬午

Lesson. Longitude and seasonal solar variation can move clock time enough to change a boundary result.

Boundary. True solar time is an explicit interpretive setting because BaZi schools differ in whether to use it.
