I Ching foundation

Eight trigrams. Sixty-four structures. Many method choices.

An I Ching reading combines a line pattern, a selected text tradition and a procedure for moving from question to response. BaziRoute starts by separating those layers.

Direct answer

Bagua are three-line trigrams. A hexagram combines six lines, read from the bottom upward. The common received sequence contains 64 named hexagrams, but sequence, line construction, moving-line rules, divination method and translation each require an explicit source. No single “official I Ching algorithm” exists across all traditions.

Line structure

Read the first line at the bottom

A six-line hexagram is conventionally described from the bottom upward. Changing that order changes the trigram pair, the hexagram identity and any derived moving-line interpretation. BaziRoute stores the ordered lines rather than relying on an image alone.

Sequence and translation

A name index is not a full commentary

The 64 labels below are study labels for navigation. A full product also needs an edition of the Chinese text, a licensed English translation or original commentary, moving-line rules and an editorial review. A Unicode symbol or AI paraphrase cannot replace those sources.

Received sequence

All 64 King Wen hexagram labels

The number and symbol identify structure and sequence. The English study label is a navigation aid, not a complete translation or an interpretation of a changing line.

What BaziRoute will not claim

  • · A random online generator is not automatically an authoritative divination method.
  • · A Unicode symbol is structure, not a complete translation or interpretation.
  • · The King Wen sequence is not the only way to arrange or study the hexagrams.
  • · AI will not be allowed to invent line values, moving lines or source quotations.
  • · Medical, legal, financial or safety decisions require qualified real-world advice.
