What Is BaZi?

BaZi, also called the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a traditional Chinese system that represents a birth moment as four pairs of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches.

01

Four pillars, eight characters

The year, month, day and hour become four pillars. Each pillar has a Heavenly Stem above and an Earthly Branch below, so the complete chart contains eight characters.

The structure is created from calendar and solar-term data. Interpretation begins only after the pillars are known.

02

The Day Master

The Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar is called the Day Master. It is the reference point for how the other stems, branches and elements are described.

A Day Master is not a complete personality label. It is the center of a larger relationship map.
